Tours

See old New York in a whole new way. Learn the de-sugar-coated history of Central Park, the Upper West Side, Midtown Manhattan, and the NYC Subway from a real life born-and-raised New Yorker.

 

Tours must be booked at least one week in advance. All tours are private tours and cost a flat fee of $200 for a maximum of 20 guests total. You can pay with cash or a credit card at the start of the tour. Timing of the tours is flexible.

 

In the unlikely event that a tour is canceled, you are entitled to either a full refund or exchange.

Irony and Compromise:
A History of Central Park

 

Learn the unexpectedly tense and controversial history behind the creation of this national historic landmark. Enjoy its breathtaking views and hear the peculiar origin stories behind its most famous landmarks.

Length: Approximately 2 hours

Where: Meet Laura with the large colorful umbrella at the fountain at Grand Army                     Plaza near 59th st and 5th Ave (the side facing The Plaza Hotel). The tour ends             on 72nd st and Central Park West.

Midtown Manhattan:
So Much More Than Times Square

 

Want a tour of Midtown, but don't want to set foot in Times Square? This is the one. This tour balances some classic sights you'd expect to see on a Midtown tour, (such as Rockerfeller Center and Grand Central Terminal) with some scarcely believable hidden gems you'd never guess were here in the center of this buzzing metropolis all along.

Length: Approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes

Where: Meet Laura with the large colorful umbrella at the statue of Christopher                         Columbus in the middle of Columbus Circle at the cross section of Broadway,

            8th Ave, Central Park West, and Central Park South. The side facing the Time                 Warner Building. The tour ends at Bryant Park, on 42nd st and 5th ave.

 

Breaking Convention:
History & Architecture of the Upper West Side

 

Imagine the most eccentric of artists and entrepreneurs moving to the far edge of a rapidly expanding metropolis; these are the pioneers of the Upper West Side. Learn the hilarious and heartbreaking stories surrounding some of the most beautiful architectural pieces in the city.

Length: Approximately 1.5 hours

Where: Meet Laura with the large colorful umbrella under the the big statue of Teddy                 Roosevelt on his horse in front of The Museum of Natural History (Central Park             West between 77th and 81st). The tour ends on 77th st and West End Ave.

New York In Transit:
The Art and History of the NYC Subway

 

Take a ride on NYC's greatest attraction, the subway. Learn the fascinating history of the subway and how it shaped the city into what it is today, and see compelling underground artwork that speaks to the history of the neighborhood above, all while zooming through the buzzing metropolis at impossible speeds.

 

Note: You must purchase your own MetroCard. The cost of your MetroCard is not included in the price of the tour. If you have never bought a MetroCard before, Laura will help you buy one at the start of the tour, but you must bring cash or a credit card to make your purchase.

Length:  Approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Where: Meet Laura with the large colorful umbrella at Broadway and Warren Street,                 right in front of City Hall Park. The tour ends in City Hall Station, beneath City               Hall Park.
